Welcome to the BDNG nurse prescribing home page. The BDNG are committed to the development of safe and effective nurse prescribing, to the extent that as a professional organisation we have supported the development of a nurse prescribing sub-committee. The success of this group has, in turn, enabled the development of a support group for BDNG members who become nurse prescribers.
Position statement
The British Dermatology Nursing Group fully supports nurse prescribing within the speciality of Dermatology in its different forms by nurses who have completed relevant post-registered education and are deemed competent to practice in a manner that safeguards the patient.
We recognise each nurse’s own responsibility to ensure that their name is visible on the professional register and undertake mandatory Continuing Professional Development and will through networking share best practice and support other nurses in their professional development.
The nurse prescribing sub committee consists of 5 experienced dermatology nurses who practise in a variety of settings and geographical locations. The committee Chair is Sharon Hulley. The committee aims are as follows:
- To facilitate the development of a dermatology nurse prescribing support group and organise bi-annual meetings to promote networking and sharing of good practice
- To promote the involvement of support group members in the shaping of the future training, evaluation and campaigning agenda
- To make available, useful and easily accessible information in relation to nurse prescribing
- To identify and address process, legislative, training or other difficulties in relation to nurse prescribing for people with skin conditions and prioritise the campaigning agenda
- To respond to relevant consultation documents as they arise on behalf of the BDNG
- To continue to liaise with the British Association of Dermatologists and patient support groups
- To monitor and evaluate the impact of nurse prescribing within dermatological service provision
- To support and review research related to nurse prescribing
- To campaign for the development of high quality dermatology prescribing training for nurse prescribers
