Annual Conference
Dear BDNG members and colleagues
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the British Dermatological Nursing Group conference, to be held in Birmingham at the ICC from 3 -5 July 2012.
As President Elect for the BDNG I will be stepping into the excellent and very professional shoes of our current President Sheila Robertson, having spent this past year shadowing her and the BNDG Executive Committee. It has been a privilege and an eye opener for someone who felt this was an elite select organisation. The reason for publicly highlighting this misconception is that I could not have been more wrong and it reflects the goal of the committee’s 2012 objective to encourage increased BDNG membership to all providers of dermatology health care services, especially primary care. In 2011 we awarded Bristol Primary Care Dermatology Team of the Year Award together with the Dermatology Team from Whipps Cross Hospital, London. This demonstrates the integration which is consistently growing across primary and secondary care and should be recognised as the future for dermatology services.
The goal of the 2012 BDNG conference is to ensure our educational programme depicts patient needs across the different sectors and will hopefully offer a wide range of choice for you to choose from. This will include an adult and paediatric module covering professional issues with a joint BDNG & BAD session looking at psychodermatology. The popular practical tool box and professional development sessions will continue, addressing a range of common issues. Getting the balance right is difficult with such a wide range of different knowledge levels but we have endeavoured to listen to your evaluations and sincerely hope we can deliver a conference that you will enjoy and benefit from.
After 21 years the BDNG is now entering a growth and development stage which potentially will take us to a more international level as a recognised professional establishment. Our membership is increasing and a recent reduction in the annual fee has seen an influx of new members which is exactly meets our rationale for this decision. There will be changes ahead to further encourage our educational input and membership, suffice to say ‘watch this space’.
I sincerely hope you can all take away improved and new knowledge to disseminate to your own areas and above all enjoy the 2012 BDNG conference. I hope to see some of you on the social programme, it often leads to stories you can live off for years and photos you wish were never taken! The Gala dinner will be held at The Banqueting Suite in Birmingham and gives an opportunity to meet old friends and make new contacts so please come along and join in.
I look forward to meeting you all in Birmingham.
Carrie Wingfield
President Elect
